Lords

Mark: Well, I’m still not over the world cup. Who in their right mind would think that the possibility of deciding the world cup final on boundaries was a good idea???

The following week I went with Matt, Harrison, and Adam to a 20-20 Match between Middlesex and Essex at Lords. The first and probably last time I’ll get there.

It was not like any cricket match I’ve ever been to. The stands were smaller than I expected. Half the people around me were in suits. Lords has a policy that each person can bring in a bottle of champagne or wine or a couple of beers/ciders/ or ready mix. You could also bring food in. Most of the people seemed to treat it as a catch up with mates, an excuse to get drunk, and the cricket seemed secondary to the whole event really. I can’t see that alcohol and food policy ever being used in NZ.

To rub salt in the wound, Eoin Morgan turned up at half time….

  1. Hi Mark
I’m not over it either. To have rank bad luck( Stokes deflection), stupid rules( why wasn’t the ball dead when it hit Stoke’s bat, why decide on the number of boundaries rather than wickets lost as in previous world cups) and then wrong umpire decision( 5 runs not 6 ) take
the game away from us was too much— especially after being glued to the TV from 9pm to 6.30 am

  2. We were gutted too Mark, but I must say what an awesome game! Best one-dayer I have ever watched. Terrible way to lose though! Your trip looks awesome so far!
